Our Mission: The Baton Rouge
Gem & Mineral Society began in 1964 with 22 members. Its
mission is to promote the interest in rocks, minerals, fossils
and gemstones to foster a greater appreciation for earth sciences
and lapidary arts. Society activities enable the sharing of
expertise in collecting and identifying rocks and minerals,
as well as working with gemstones to produce pieces for jewelry
or other polished stone products.
The Baton Rouge Gem & Mineral Society is
organized to promote interest in the various earth sciences,
in particular those areas dealing with the science of gems,
minerals and fossils, the art of cutting and polishing gemstones,
metal crafts, jewelry arts, and all related fields. The club
is a not for profit organization established for charitable
and educational purposes.
